When I came to college I only had a little idea of what it would be like but after being here for a period of time it is way different than i thought. The first couple weeks i thought i could just get by by doing all the things that i did in high school, which wasn't much. After my first Biology test i realized that i actually had to take the time to study the material cause i couldn't just look at the notes my teacher gave me. The test was over the book information so i had to study a lot more. The first few weeks were very strange for me cause i didn't have anyone telling me what to do I was completely free. So I have learned a lot since being here. I learned how to study properly for my classes and that it's up to me if I am gonna pass my classes or not by going to my classes. I have also grown a lot since being here.
Since coming here and being by myself and far away from home i have grown a lot. I use to be shy and never go out of my comfort zone but I have started to come out of my comfort zone and make new friends and be more out going and not so reserved. I still am shy but i feel like i am not as shy as i use to be. Coming here and only knowing a couple people helped me not go crazy those first couple of days cause those first couple of days i was so shy and i thought i wasn't gonna make any friends but the people that i did know helped me start to over come my shyness. So all in all I feel i have grown a lot as a person and learned a lot since being here.

what the Hixson award means to me
The Hixson award means so much to me but most importantly it means my future. Christian Hixson is the reason why i get to come to Iowa State and peruse my major and get a great education. Without this award im not exactly sure if i would be here or what i would be doing.
The hixson award means my future. Without this award i don't know how i could have been able to come to college and peruse my dreams of working with exotic animals. All throughout my senior year me and my mom talked about how i could pay for college because she didn't have enough to pay for all of it and my dad didn't have much money. So we thought i was gonna have to go to community college or something for a while because we could pay for Iowa State ourselves. That was something i didnt wanna do because they didnt have what i needed for my major. So when i got the letter saying i was getting the hixson award my mom and i were so happy because now i could go to Iowa State and get my degree in animal ecology which was what i had always wanted to do. I am so grateful to have received this award. Now i get a chance to get a great education for what i want to be. Since getting this reward i am more grateful for everything in my life, especially Christian Hixson for being such a kind and generous woman to give this award. I am so happy that i am here and get to go for my dreams and it is because i got the hixson award. so all in all this is the reason why i get to come here and what this award means to me which is my FUTURE!

Diversity Event!
I went to Only a Theory? evolution and the battle for the American soul. The speaker was Dr. Ken Miller from Brown university. what the lecture was about was the fight between evolution vs creation(interesting design).this wasnt a lecture saying God doesnt exist it was a lecture about how evolution has evolved everything over time. a good point that he made was that God may have created the very first organism but evolution has created everything else. He talked about many court cases where the schools fought about what to teach their children: evolution or interesting design( which was proven to be creation in disguise). in each of these court cases evolution has one because there is so much information and proof to support it and on the creation side they really cant prove anything. another reason why evolution won was because people in certain states did not want the religion side taught to their kids. there are so many facts that he presented to use about how it is so clear that we have evolved from the species before us(apes) but he also showed us that even the pope, St.Augustine, and a very famous religious person Gregor Mendel all "believe" in evolution in some way.
I thought that this lecture was very interesting and i am very glad i went to it. i would recommend everyone to go see Dr. Ken Miller if he ever gives a lecture here again. otherwise i would read one of his books the his most recent one is the title of his lecture.. Only a Theory? evolution and the battle for the American soul.

social media
For my social media week i decided that i would use twitter for a week cause i had never used it before and i wanted to see why everyone is so "in love" with it. I still don't understand why people like it so much i didn't think it was that interesting. what i learned from twitter is that it is simple to follow certain people or groups but not all of what they put on there is helpful and sometimes is just random things. i wasn't very excited about this whole social media thing but it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. i got to connect with groups that someday i would like to be involved with. this site could help me connect better with professionals in my field of study which could possibly lead to better things.
Now for what i learned in some of the articles that i read changed my mind a bit about twitter and its uses. a couple things that surprised me is that in mexico before news teams arrive people have already posted things about violent crimes on twitter. since the people of mexico can post their views and what they witness on this social site mexico has no band the use of this program for postings of such events. There are many leaders and humanitarians that use this site which surprised me as to how many of them do use it. I learned that i really never do want to go to mexico because it is very dangerous down there for every single person. i also learned that i should keep in mind that someday soon my friend will not be the only people looking at my facebook/twitter it will be future employers.
this was a good experience and i am taking a lot away from this. I still do not know if i want to use my twitter or not but i will make up my mind soon!

MBTI
I had no idea what I was doing when i took the MBTI test. i was not sure why i was doing this or what is was going to say about me but after getting my results back i agree on pretty much everything except the second part. The results told me i was ISFJ but when we did that self assessment in class i got INFJ.
I agree that i am an I because I am very quiet and i think a lot before i do anything. I also agree on the F because I always try to be kind to everyone and i have compassion for everything, and i appreciate everything that i am given. I believe that i am a J because i am very organized, i plan everything out a head of time, and i set goals to complete each week. i dont like feeling out of control of my own life so i always try and stay in control. I can be spontaneous sometimes but that usually only happens when i have nothing planned. Now i have a tough time between being an S or a N. The test showed that im an S which i agree that i am kind of an S but i also have qualities that make me an N like making or going off hunches.
So from the results that i got i agree with them for the first, third, and fourth part but i think i am just gonna be stuck in the middle of being an S or a N. the results didn't surprise me at all and im pretty happy with what i got.

My Bucket List
My whole life i have always thought about what i wanted to be and what i wanted to do. The list has just been getting longer and longer. Now that i am at college i have twicked my goals/ bucket list just a bit.
Some of my goals for the next four years while i am here at college are to be involved with clubs, make lots of new friends, and work towards finding a job in my major. I would like to be involved with clubs so i can get leadership opportunities and also to meet new people that are not always in my major. I would like to make lots of new friend since i only came to college knowing a few people and friends are what will help you through anything in your life. i think that working towards finding a job in my major will be the hardest goal i have. To make it to the end of my college years will take a lot of hard work, late nights of studying, and probably a few freak-outs here and there. Once i finish my four years here i would love to have a job working some where that has lots of exotic animals and i can observe and take care of them. i wouldn't mind working at a zoo for a few years to get the experience but my dream job would be working somewhere over in Africa,India, or Australia.those are just my goals for while i am at school i have a "bucket list" for the rest of my life.
My "bucket List" is full of things that i want to do before i die. i have been thinking of things since i could remember so its a long list but i will share a few with you. one of the top ones that i have is that i would like to travel all over the world. i want to see all the different cultures and life styles that all those places have to offer. i think that it would be so fun and such a cool learning experience. another thing on my bucket list is to save all the endangered species and stop all those stupid people from poaching. i know it is probably not going to happen in my life time but i feel as if i can create a big organization about helping the animals and against poaching then it might actually happen. those were just a couple things on my "bucket list" that i hope will happen.
That was just a few of my goals while i am at college and also from my "bucket list" for my whole life. i have a lot more goals and things i want to do with my life but that would just be a huge list that people probably don't want to read.

Best
There have been many times in my life where I think of my life as being the "best" but the one i am going to tell you about takes place when i am in second grade. this time of my life was when my family was at its happiest.
second grade was one of my favorite years because i was still young and nothing bothered me. i was happy, i had lots of friends and my teachers were really nice. recess time was the high light of everyday. we had this jungle gym thing outside that me and a bunch of friends always hung out on. we would always try and do new tricks and just hang around until we had to go back in side. after school i would always go over to my babysitters house and that is where a bunch of my friends went to so i was always hanging out and playing with my friends. now when my parents came and got me once they were done working i would go home eat diner and just rest with my family. i would tell them everything that i did that day. to me my parents always seemed happy but soon that would change.
so since i always had friends to hang out with and my family and i always did things together and were happy that i why this particular time in my life is the "best"
